The World’s Best Picture-Perfect Art Hotels

The First Hotel Roma

Rome, Italy

A spectacular, 19th Century building in the historic centre of Rome, The First Hotel Roma holds a collection of 200 artworks by over 35 artists sourced by the Galleria Mucciaccia. The hotel was remodelled in 2000 by prominent architects Marincola & Partners, who were also responsible for the interior design; the building was formally a neoclassical palace, and has stayed true to its artistic ambiance.

All of the First Roma's public areas are now open to guests, who can circulate around the artwork and reflect on the art -  in a similar layout to that of an art gallery. Whilst some exhibitions are temporary, others within the hotel are permanent, and include work by contemporary Italian artists and 20th Century Maestros. The public areas include the hotel’s lounge bar, the “Acquaroof” terrace with amazing views of Rome, and the hotel’s starred restaurant, “Acquolina”. The Galleria which has curated the artworks is located only a few feet from the hotel.
