The Merrion was designed and built from four historic Georgian town houses, and is situated opposite government buildings; it's also walking distance from the National Gallery, Royal Hiberian Academy and Dublin's 'Golden Mile'.

What makes the Merrion a stand out art-hotel is its exclusive collection of over 90 stunning paintings from the 19th and 20th Century, by some of the most popular Irish painters, including William Scott, Jack B. Yeats and Sir John Lavery. The collection has also been named "one of the most significant in Ireland". The hotel also hired one of Ireland’s finest young painters, Martin Mooney, to paint elegant murals of Dublin in the lobby and stairwell, in the neo-classical style. The Merrion also goes one step further with its love of art, creating a special Afternoon Art Tea, which was inspired by some of the paintings from the hotel's collection - the Tea has been dubbed "art that is good enough to eat".
