Gibraltar Sundial Roundabout

Known for the famous Rock of Gibraltar, a megalithic burst of limestone that surveys the land below, Gibraltar has been part of British territory for the last 300 years.

It’s also home to the only wild population of Barbary Macaques in Europe. However, its rich history sprawls back as far as 5 million years ago, when the Atlantic Ocean erupted through the Strait of Gibraltar, and gave birth to the Mediterranean Sea. With such a varied and extensive past, its Sundial Roundabout is reminiscent of its strategic importance throughout time. The grassy knoll supporting the structure illustrates the four cardinal directions, and the sundial also effectively tells the time.
