The first sentence of this quote may have you scratching your head, but writer Colin Wright is making a serious point. Design is not done merely to satisfy the designer - or rather that's not the intention behind good design. Wright is reminding us that design is usually a commercial activity, with the designer working for a client. It also had to satisfy the needs of the user.
