Awards: Arnold Laver Gold Award and Private Winner at Wood Awards

Set upon a man-made lake in Hampshire, the Fishing Hut has successfully claimed two Wood Awards for its outstanding design.

Niall McLaughlin Architects found a balance between being as open as possible and ensuring the hut could be securely locked up when not in use (outside the April-September trout fishing season).

The building is created upon 18 pad fountains formed from precast concrete drainage rings. Nine galvanized steel goalpost frames are fixed to these pads to support the timber floor structure and glulam oak superstructure. A variety of other woods have been used to achieve the project's success including softwood for the rafters and oak board.

The Fishing Hut's wooden design evokes warmth, which further adds to the serenity of the place.
