Willmott Dixon wins $28 million contract for Ysgol Y Gogarth redevelopment


UK-based Willmott Dixon has secured a £18 million ($27.9 million) contract from the Conwy County Borough Council for the redevelopment of the Ysgol Y Gogarth special education needs school in in Craig y Don, Llandudno.


Under the terms of the contract, the company will build a new school for 170-pupils with special needs. The school will be built on the designs of UK-based design practice Atkins Plc. It will include classrooms and specialist teaching areas, library, IT spaces, therapy rooms, hydro-pool, sports hall and vocational teaching areas.

The contract also involves retrofitting of the existing space to provide self-contained flats. The renovated facility will have a new entrance, which will serve as a clear division between school and home.

Construction on the project is likely to commence in July 2012. It will be staged in two phases and is likely to span for two years. In the phase II, the company will work on improving vehicle access and parking. Willmott Dixon will also build new grassed and multi-use sports pitches together with new habitat and recreation areas.

The funding for the scheme is being provided by Welsh Government and Conwy County Borough Council.
