Willmott Dixon scoops $31 million school construction contract in UK
UK-based developer Willmott Dixon has secured £20 million ($30.99 million) contract from Cardiff County Council for the construction of the new St Teilo’s Church in Wales High School in Wales, UK.
Under the terms of the contract, the developer will build the new St Teilo’s Church which will have a total capacity for 1,440-pupils. Construction of the school is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2013. The school will be built on the current grass pitches on the Llanedeyrn site and will be accessible from Circle Way East.
A striking feature of the new school building will be its rounded façade, which in addition to adding aesthetic appeal, will also add to the acoustic quotient of the building. The façade will act as an effective noise buffer to the core of the building.
The façade will envelope an outdoor area, much like an amphitheatre, which will serve as a socialising or event space of the school. The new school is sited next to the archaeological remains of a Methodist church. The design of the school will complement the historic site.
The new school will also include state-of-the-art sports and recreational facilities. The facilities will be developed with strict compliance with environmental criteria. The school will encourage students and staff to travel by sustainable means, such as bus, walking and cycling.
