Willmott Dixon completes research facility in UK
UK-based construction company Willmott Dixon has completed construction of research facility at Aberystwyth University in the UK.
The new research facility, which has been built at the Gogerddan campus at Aberystwyth University, will be used to conduct research on genetics, agriculture and ecology. The project involved construction of a research station as well as a greenhouse. The research station has a total build up area of 1,500 square metre, while the greenhouse claims 750 square metre of space.
Both the buildings incorporate various green elements such as sedum roofs, rainwater harvesting, natural ventilation and sustainable timber cladding. The company has also developed a biomass boiler at Gogerddan and ground source heat pumps at Penglai. These eco-friendly features have earned the new buildings BREEAM Excellent certification.
The greenhouse has been created using 1,274 polycarbonate panes. Both the buildings have facilities for creating artificial conditions, which facilitates the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences' students and researchers to monitor the growth and response of plants under various climates.
