VINCI to construct new teaching building for University of Bath
VINCI Construction UK has been awarded a £16 million ($25.57 million) contract by the University of Bath to design and construct a new five-storey teaching building.
The new 8,000 square metre, five-storied building, named as the General Teaching Accommodation (GTA), will include a range of high quality learning facilities, including group lecture rooms, two 350-space lecture theatres, and social spaces. After completion, the new building will double the number of large scale lecture theatres on campus, which will allow up to 2,000 students to use the building at any one time.
To enable infiltration of natural light into the high circulation building, glass walls are used in three storeys. A ‘skywalk’ bridge will be featured that will connect the building with the main campus parade.
The contract is part of the University Masterplan which provides a framework for the development of the campus until 2026. Forming a part of the University’s three-year major capital works investment programme, the scheme will provide an upscale teaching facility for the University’s staff and growing student population.
The project will be completed by September 2013 with an opening date set for October 2013.
