Veidekke Entreprenør AS has secured a NOK104 million ($17.1 million) contract from the SIÅS, the University Foundation for Student Life in Ås, Norway to build a student residential scheme at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences.
Under the terms of the contract, the company will build two blocks, which will together offer space for 254 students. The building will be eight storeys high and will be built with a load-bearing structure of solid wood.
The project has been designed by 5b Prosjekt AS in close cooperation with Trebruk AS, which is supported by a wood-based innovation programme at Innovation Norway. Construction work on the project will commence in August 2012, and is set to be completed in late 2013.
Subject to support from Enova, the buildings are planned to be built as an environmental project with passive house standard.
