Van Meter opens new green warehouse-office in Iowa
Cedar Rapids-based electrical parts wholesaler Van Meter Incorporation has opened its new warehouse-office building in Iowa on 13 February 2012.
The new structure, spanning 22,840 square feet, broke ground in July 2011 and has substituted the company's existing location in Iowa City. It comprises an indoor drive-thru, an advanced training centre, and a spacious customer service sales counter. The facility abides by a host of green principles. It incorporates a geothermal heating and cooling unit. The structure has also been equipped with LED lighting fixtures and controls to reap energy cost cuts.
Installation of a 14 kilowatt solar system and a daylight harvesting system further reduces energy consumption of the building. This, coupled with other energy-efficient elements, leads to a 57% reduction in energy usage compared to similar sized structures. The facility also sports a power monitoring system while presence of electric vehicle charging stations boosts the green initiative.
