UTSA breaks ground on Park West Athletics Complex

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) has broken ground on the Park West Athletics Complex.

The facility will be designed by HKS Sports & Entertainment Group, in association with San Antonio-based Overland Partners Architects. Bartlett Cocke General Contractors will serve as the construction manager. The complex will be located on a part of the 125-acre tract which is nearly two miles west of the UTSA Main Campus.

The project will be carried out in various phases. The first phase of the project will involve construction of a soccer stadium with a seat capacity of 1,000, 1,000-seat track and field stadium, parking lot comprising 500 spaces, roadways, a retention basin, as well as related infrastructure. The facilities will facilitate public events and will function as home base for the UTSA sports teams.

The future phases of the project will include creation of tennis, softball and baseball facilities, fan amenities, meeting and hospitality rooms. There will also be expansion of the current facilities as part of the later phases.

The initial phase of the project will be financed via $22.1 million in combined bond funds from Bexar County and the City of San Antonio. Work on phase I is due for completion by 2013.
