UT tops out new Natalie L. Haslam Music Centre
The new $40 million Natalie L. Haslam Music Centre at the University of Tennessee (UT) in Knoxville, Tennessee, US has been topped out.
Work on the project commenced on November 2010. The new building will span 123,000 square feet covering four stories. It will sport the Sandra G. Powell Recital Hall, a new music library, along with rehearsal facilities for band, choral, opera and orchestra programmes. Among its other features include a recording studio, and multiple rehearsal rooms and classroom equipped with upgraded technology.
The University received a donation of $32.5 million from philanthropists Natalie and Jim Haslam and the Haslam Family Foundation in 2006. Out of this, $10 million was allotted for the UT School of Music, which dedicated the funds for the construction of a new facility. The project also secured funds of $30 million from the state of Tennessee in 2007. The new facility is scheduled to open by 2013 end.
