UT breaks ground on a new $49 milion research building in Tennessee
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center has broken ground on a $49 million, Translational Science Research Building (TSRB) in Memphis, Tennessee.
The TSRB will be a four-storey building, which will be built on the northwest corner of Manassas and Union in Memphis. The building will have a total built-up area of 135,000 square feet, the design of which will be an exact replica of the existing Cancer Research building.
The building will accommodate several laboratories, which will have an open plan layout. To facilitate easy access to common equipment for researchers , all the laboratories will be inter-connected by means of interior hallways.
The new building and the existing cancer research building will be connected to each other at levels two, three and four by means of elevated walkways. Construction on the scheme is scheduled to commence soon with completion pinned for late 2013.
