University of Tennessee earns LEED for New Norris House

The University of Tennessee has secured LEED Homes Platinum Certification from the US Green Building Council for its New Norris House.

The 768 square feet New Norris House, which was built by joint efforts of staff and students of the University, is the university's first LEED Platinum building, which is the ultimate hallmark of sustainable development. Construction on the scheme spanned more than three years.

The New Norris House is highly water efficient owing to a rainwater collection system. Further water efficiency is achieved by means of a landscaped garden featuring extensive native plants.

The house has efficient heating and cooling system. Built using environmentally friendly materials, the New Norris House is the modern interpretation of the original Norris House built in 1933 by the Tennessee Valley Authority.
