University City Science Center in Pennsylvania to get new residential scheme

US-based Wexford Equities LLC, in a joint venture with Southern Land Company, has announced plans to build a new residential tower at the University City Science Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which is designed by BLTa Architects.

Named as 3601 Market, the proposed residential block will be a 27-storied tall tower, which will be located at 3601 Market Street in Philadelphia, adjacent to the Science Center. The new 400,000 square feet building will offer a total of 364 apartments.

The residential units will be a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments, which will feature stainless steel appliances and granite countertops as well as washers and dryers. The building will also accommodate approximately 17,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, a fitness centre, a rooftop pool, a resident lounge and 200 parking spaces.

The ground breaking on 3601 Market is scheduled for late 2013, with completion in the first quarter of 2015. Proposed to feature a green roof, the scheme is being aspired for LEED Silver certification.
