Trace Elementary School extension completes in California

US-based educational facilities builder Swinerton Builders, in association with BFGC-IBI Group, has completed construction of a new building for Trace Elementary School in Silicon Valley, California.

The new building spans 26,618 square feet, which is spread over two levels. The building accommodates 18 fully updated classrooms, a media centre/library, as well as support spaces.

The new building is noted for its unique single-loaded design with circulation on only one side, which is toward the interior of the campus. Each end of the building has exit stairs, while the elevator has been placed in the centre offering convenient access.

The linear solution incorporated into the building allows north light to fall on the street side of the building, while south light illuminates the circulation side of the building. The building features overhangs, which prevents rain water to sweep inside and also from direct sun light.

The building also features handmade ceramic tiles, a metal roof system, custom casework, and various sustainable features, which were designed by BFGC-IBI Group, enabling it to dim the differences with the 2009-built administration wing.
