Thomas Cook's Peterborough branch trials new lighting scheme

High street travel agent Thomas Cook's Peterborough branch in UK is trialling a new lighting scheme, developed by GE Lighting.

To reduce energy consumption across its 900 retail stores, Thomas Cook tasked GE Lighting to develop a one-for-one retrofit that can reduce energy consumption but not at the expense of light quality. Currently, the stores are illuminated using linear fluorescents for ambient lighting, with halogen spots illuminating the entrance and merchandising displays.

The new lighting scheme includes GE Lighting’s Lumination recessed LED portfolio, which is claimed by the company as the first true replacement to conventional 600 x 600 lighting fixtures. It aims at reducing the energy and maintenance cost.

Throughout the ambient areas of the store, GE Lighting used Lumination, a 600sq LED panel. Lumination technology claims to save up to 70% energy as compared to fluorescent technology and eliminate maintenance costs for over 10 years and offers full controllability.

Within the accent applications, GE Lighting used LED Infusion Module embodied into a Compact Lighting Downlight. A high output, interchangeable LED module, Infusion has created a welcoming entrance and highlights the displayed merchandise within the store. Through a twist and lock motion, the LED module can be interchanged as and when the technology upgrades without replacing the luminaire.
