The White Room designs rooftop garden in Mumbai

India-based design studio The White Room has created a rooftop garden in Mumbai in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

The 1,500 square feet rooftop garden at Bandra in Mumbai was designed as a leisure venue, where one can enjoy the sunset or relax. The garden is made of organically designed free flowing arched canopy, which covers the entire length of the terrace. The arched canopy begins from the floor and rises slowly to form the roof for the patio.

The canopy frames the open terrace and the space beyond the framed terrace which is covered in planters for trees or an occasional lily pond. The space features salinity tolerant and hardy plants such as palms, lantanas and wild grass, which are easy to maintain.

The canopy was created using ferrocrete, which has highly elastic properties and provides a monolithic sculptural form. To make the structure waterproof, epoxy polymer was used and was later laid with lawn.

The walls of the rooftop garden have been adorned with mosaic, while slate and teak wood joists have been used for the flooring.
