Duck Pond Roundabout. Otford, UK.
Also celebrated as Duckingham Palace, this Otford roundabout includes a listed duck pond. The emerald wedge of water is encircled by equally green vegetation, and transforms the roundabout into an idyllic oasis. However, the sweeping branches of its willow trees belie its history.
It’s thought to have been a watering hole for local animals during the Anglo-Saxon era, and its far-reaching past may have contributed to its ongoing existence today. In January 1975 it was awarded grade two listed status, which stopped the Kent County Council from burying it under concrete. Lastly, it is considered to be the only roundabout that contains a duck pond.
