TCU's Erma Lowe Hall bags LEED Gold

The Erma Lowe Hall of Texas Christian University (TCU) in Texas, US has received LEED Gold from the US Green Building Council.

The facility, designed by Michael Bennett of Fort Worth’s Bennett Benner Pettit Architects + Planners, houses the University's School of Classic and Contemporary Dance. It imbibes a host of green elements such as large windows which optimise natural light penetration and reap energy cost cuts. Energy consumption is further reduced with installation of timers and motion sensors for interior and exterior lighting systems.

The building has been equipped with low-flow fixtures which cut down the amount of water usage. The facility also employs measures to decrease the water use for irrigation needs by 50%. The materials used in the building have been procured via local sources. Further, 75% of the original building has been reused and 75% of its construction debris has been diverted from reaching the landfill.
