Taïwan Taoyuan International Airport to undertake runway expansion project

Aéroports de Paris Ingénierie (ADPI), in partnership with Taiwan-based design and engineering consultants Sinotech, has won a $194 million contract to redevelop the runways at Taïwan Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei.

The revamp would involve renovation of the two existing runways and associated taxiways at the gateway. It would also include establishment of an additional quick exit lane and extra parking areas, as well as extension of the south runway 100 metres west and 350 metres east, which would increase the overall runway length to 3,800 metres.

On completion of the expansion and redevelopment work, the south runway will be able to accommodate wide-body aircraft such as the Airbus A380. The redevelopment work is estimated to complete in 2015.

Taïwan Taoyuan International Airport is the country’s main airport, located near Taipei. The airport handled 27 million passengers in 2012.
