Sunset Beach dedicates new green Fire Station 2
The Fire Station 2 at 7149 Old Georgetown Road in Sunset Beach, North Carolina, US has been dedicated.
The facility spans over an area of 7,297 square feet and will offer fire and medical protection and reinforcement services for the region. It incorporates a host of green features which has earned it a LEED Silver certification from the US Green Building Council. The features include installation of a solar hot water heater, and a geothermal heat pump.
The facility has been adorned in light external shades to cut down the heat island effect. It also makes use of low-VOC paint. Incorporation of day lighting features, as well as energy-efficient windows and roof insulation add to the sustainability factor.
The town received a $1.5 million federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant for the project.
