Sun Lane Leisure in Wakefield wins regional RICS award
The swimming and fitness centre named as Sun Lane Leisure in Wakefield, which is designed by the architecture firm NPS, has received the top prize in the Tourism & Leisure category at the annual RICS Pro-Yorkshire Awards held in Leeds on 26 April 2013.
Sun Lane Leisure is a replacement for the city centre swimming baths in Wakefield. The building contains a main pool with spectator accommodation and a studio pool capable of being used for private or discrete swim sessions.
Apart from that it also features a large fitness suite with a flexible multi-use activity studio, health suite with steam room and sauna, let able meeting room and convenient vending areas for patrons.
Both the pools feature movable floors to maximise flexibility of configuration for the benefit of all user groups.
The scheme commenced on site in May 2011 with practical completion achieved on 20 September 2012. It has achieved BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
