Steelcase showcases furniture solutions at TEDGlobal 2012

US-based furniture manufacturer Steelcase showcased a host of innovative furniture solutions at this year’s TEDGlobal 2012, held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre between 25-29 June.

Radical Openness was the theme of TEDGlobal 2012. As the world becomes ever more interconnected, the ways we relate, the means by which we learn about one another and develop mutual understanding, and the rules about what we hide and what we share are changing. Steelcase’s products attempt to facilitate collaboration.

These include i2i chair that is designed to let people orient themselves to their fellow collaborators without taking away their focus or sacrificing comfort. This collaborative chair supports a variety of postures so people can remain engaged, and stay connected.

Bix is a soft seating and table family. It creates semi private spaces, informal areas and provides convenient connections to power, voice and data. Its backrest screen prevents people from being distracted by others in busy open plans.

B Free Lounge is a family of seven simple elements for welcome and informal spaces. They aim at designing multiple and easily reconfigurable settings. B Free Lounge creates focal points where people can meet, communicate informally or work together.

In March 2012, Steelcase also kicked off the Steelcase 100 Year Anniversary at TED 2012 in Long Beach, under the banner “100 Dreams, 100 Minds, 100 Years”.

TED, the non-profit dedicated to ideas worth spreading, encourages others to dream.
