Stamford Hospital to begin $450 million medical centre project

Stamford Health System plans to build a new $450 million Stamford Hospital in Stanford, Connecticut.

The single phase project involves construction of a new hospital, which has been designed to offer patient-centered care. The hospital will accommodate new patient care units, which will have all private rooms with attached bathrooms and centralized nurses’ stations.

The Emergency Department (ED) of the new hospital will feature separate treatment areas for trauma, cardiac, urgent, behavioral health and pediatric patients. The ED will have 50% more treatment rooms. It will also have a dedicated and easily accessible parking and a single entry for both walk-in and ambulance.

The new hospital will have larger surgical suites, which will be able to accommodate the latest technology. Plans also includes a new Pediatric Unit in the Whittingham Pavilion, which will sit next to the existing Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The project will increase the number of patient beds in ICU from 16 to 24 beds. Electrophysiology, Catheterization and Interventional Labs will be co-located to offer a centralized Heart & Vascular Institute services.

The new hospital is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2016.
