Zayed Sports City Stadium

Location: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

The largest multi-purpose stadium in the United Arab Emirates - with over 43,000 seating capacity - Zayed Sports City Stadium was originally opened in 1979. In 2009 it was renovated, so that many of the facilities could be updated to ensure that they adhered to the international standards.

The stadium is so spacious that it contains a running track, which surrounds the immense football pitch; this allows the stadium to be used for multiple events. The arena was designed by architects Henri Colvoc, Pierre Dalidet and George Philippe, and is defined by its giant exterior arches; these extend to the floor around the sporting ground. Since its renovation, the Zayed Sports City Stadium has become a significant part of UAE history and heritage, so much so that it was featured on the country's 200 dirham banknote.
