Southdale Centre to undergo extensive makeover

Southdale Centre in Edina, Minnesota, US is set to embark on a $19.1 million facelift.

Scope of work encompasses creation of a new dining pavilion with an expansive skylight, and play space. The common areas of the building will be equipped with upgraded ceilings following the makeover. The revamped shopping mall will also incorporate new tile flooring as well as soft seating areas.

The guest services section will receive an overhaul as part of the project. There will be installation of new indoor signage. In addition, the property will receive cosmetic upgrades to its texture and color palette.

The refurbishment project will be paid for by a $5.1 million interest-free loan contributed from Edina City Council which will cover upgrades to the facility's common areas. The loan will be provided solely from the Centennial Lakes TIF district with the funds repaid directly to that district. Further, the mall owner Simon Property Group of Indianapolis will make a $14 million investment for the project. Work is slated to be over by November 2012.
