Society Café by Simple Simon Design

Bristol-based Simple Simon Design has designed a coffee shop, dubbed Society Café, in Bath’s historic Kingsmead Square.

Designed to be deliberately spare in decoration, the coffee shop is spread over two floors. The interior makes use of many reclaimed and raw materials, some of which have been embellished with digital printing. This helps to lend an illusion of a space that has evolved over time rather than been artificially created.

The minimal decoration also lends a sense of space, which has a small footprint. The café features the owners’ personal collection of photographic prints, which are changed frequently to ensure a constantly evolving environment.

Society Café also features wall decorations that include strip wood wallpaper, a blackboard wall for the entertainment of children, and the owners’ bicycle. The design also utilises a mix of contemporary spotlights and reclaimed fittings sourced from marine salvage to create a unique and quirky feel.
