Slidell Memorial Hospital breaks ground on new addition
Slidell Memorial Hospital in Louisiana, US has broken ground on a new addition.
The expansion has been designed by New Orleans-based architecture firm Sizeler Thompson Brown with Metairie-based firm Citadel Builders LLC serving as the general contractor. The addition will cover an area of 64,000 square feet encompassing two floors. The first floor of the new building will house an emergency unit whereas the second level will consist of a cardiology unit.
The new advanced Emergency Room will raise the capacity of the existing emergency room by 57% and hence lead to a reduction in the patients' waiting times. The new Cardiology wing will create an additional 38 inpatient private rooms for cardiac care. Further, both the units will be equipped with latest technology.
The project will be financed through a $25 million bond renewal approved by voters from wards 6-9 in April 2011. The entire building is expected to wrap up construction by June 2013.
