Skanska wins Thurrock Campus project in Essex

Skanska UK, an arm of Swedish construction major Skanska AB, has secured a SEK355 million ($53 million) contract to design and build new Thurrock Campus in Grays, Essex.

The Thurrock campus will be part of the South Essex College of Further & Higher Education. Under the terms of the contract, Skanska will develop a 15,000 square metre campus that will be developed across two buildings - a three-storey building and four-storey building on a 60-acres site located just outside of Grays.

The campus will also include a purpose-built forklift truck training centre on campus and a purpose-built business centre. The amenities for the students will include an on-campus restaurant, and comprehensive sports facilities, including a fully-equipped gymnasium and a sports hall. The new campus will include a host of green elements, and is being aspired for BREEAM Excellent rating.

The new campus will offers courses in business, catering, childcare, construction, engineering, games development, ICT, sports and retail alongside specialist training facilities for beauty therapy, hairdressing and theatrical make-up.
