Shanxi province in China to get unique pop-up hotel
Beijing-based firm Tonghe Shanzi Landscape Design has created a 21-room hotel by using 35 recycled shipping containers in Shanxi province, China.
The hotel, which covers 5,000 square metres in area, features courtyard rooms, deluxe suites, a lobby and restaurants. The pop-up hotel offers cosy rooms in 50 or 100 square feet, with eight and a half foot ceilings. All the hotel rooms have double beds positioned behind double doors and provides access to patio areas for guests to sit outside and relax.
Each room is furnished with sofas, fixtures and bedding, including traditional lanterns and furniture. Guests can also hang out in the shipping container lobby and restaurant, or watch a tea ceremony or music performance in the courtyards.
The pop-up hotel took three months to design and install. It is expected to open in August 2012.
