Royal Court theatre begins phase I of renovation
Work has begun on phase I of the £10.6 million ($16.8 million) facelift of Royal Court theatre in Liverpool, UK.
The stalls and circle areas of the facility will be refitted as part of the project. The refurbished facility including its revamped stalls level will now allow better accessibility for the disabled. The existing cabaret-style lay-out of the ground level will also undergo a remodel.
The theatre will redesign its interior and recondition its original 1930s seating facilities following the makeover. It will now also be equipped with upgraded lighting fixtures and bars.
The first phase of the project has been financed by a £867,800 ($1,376,110) Heritage Lottery Fund grant. In addition, over £200,000 ($317,148) has been raised by theatregoers through a £1 ($1.58) ticket levy for the project.
