Rotherham's Boston Castle topped out
The Boston Castle in Rotherham, UK has been topped out as part of a £900,000 ($1,420,780) makeover.
The castle will be transformed to a new visitor centre and community facility following upgrades and restoration of its interior as well as exterior portion. The refurbished facility will sport exhibition spaces, an education/meeting area, and restrooms. The battlements of the building will be reinstated in original salvaged stone as part of the project. The windows will undergo repair work and will now be adorned in 18th century designs.
The facility will employ various measures to ensure security such as CCTV, flood lighting and discrete metal shutters. It will also incorporate accessible paths, and on-site parking spaces. Further, the courtyard of the castle will be converted into an event zone post overhaul.
The project has been financed via Rotherham Borough Council, Heritage Lottery Fund and Biffaward grants. Work is due for completion by early 2012.
