Rockville Public Library to undergo major renovation, expansion
Rockville Public Library in Vernon, Connecticut, US is set to embark on a major refurbishment and expansion project.
The project will make the building comply by ADA specifications with installation of wider aisles and an elevator linking its three levels. There will also be creation of a new portico and entryway.
The property will sport a conference room equipped with advanced technology following the makeover to offer space for new programmes and serve community meetings. The Adult stacks and the Young Adult unit will be fitted with new computers providing internet service. There will be now more office space, a more spacious circulation area, and technological improvements. Further, the property’s parking lot will be configured post overhaul to create 42 additional spaces.
The project has received a $1 million matching grant from Connecticut State Library and a $250,000 grant from the State of Connecticut for ADA upgrades. Rockville Bank and the George Sykes Memorial Fund have provided funds of $250,000 each. The Library’s Board of Trustees has committed $238,000 from an existing building fund whereas individuals have pledged a sum of $400,000 for the project. The project is due to be over by 2013 end.
