Renovation underway for Sweden’s Nationalmuseum
The renovation work is underway for Sweden’s Nationalmuseum by the National Property Board Sweden, which is responsible for the palaces, royal parks, embassies, wild nature and historical buildings in Sweden.
Located on the peninsula Blasieholmen in central Stockholm, the Nationalmuseum renovation has moved Nationalmuseum’s greatest artworks into storage from its location on the upper staircase.
The artwork Midwinter Sacrifice by Carl Larsson’s measures almost 90 square metres and has been in the museum’s collections since 1997. Conservator Britta Nilsson helped to put up the work when it first came to the museum.
The artwork on two canvases, which measures a total of 6.4 x 13.6 metres, has been in the museum’s collections since 1997.
Midwinter Sacrifice, one of Carl Larsson’s most controversial works, was restored and exhibited at the Swedish History Museum in Stockholm in 1983-84.
