Renovation underway at Roanoke Regional Airport

A major renovation work worth $4 million is underway at Roanoke Regional Airport in the city of Ronaoke, US.

To minimise disruption, the work will be conducted in two phases, starting with the renovation of the gate area with the gates to be updated one at a time. Each gate will take about a month to be renovated with work to cease during the busy holiday travel period.

The new seating area at the gates will feature “work islands” with table, chairs and electrical outlets for charging cell phones or laptops in the wireless-friendly concourse. Work will also begin on replacing the front revolving door with an oversized sliding door.

Behind the concourse, a temporary restroom will be constructed to enable both the men’s and women’s facilities to be gutted and expanded. This is expected to begin by early 2013. Restrooms in the lower level also will be renovated in the spring.

The modernised airport will also get a new escalator in the winter. Travelers will be able to use an elevator to get from the ticket concourse to security. New finishes would be featured throughout the public areas of the second floor of the terminal.

The modernisation and renovation project of the airport began in September 2012. The renovation work will end by July 2013.
