Posty Cards, Incorporation's Kansas City manufacturing facility in Missouri, US has secured LEED Platinum from the US Green Building Council after a renovation and expansion.
The project has been designed by McHenry Shaffer Mitchell Architects with Turner Special Projects serving as the construction manager. It has increased the size of the facility from 22,000 to 45,000 square feet while increasing its energy consumption by 5%. It has also cut down its carbon footprint per square foot.
The building incorporates various eco-friendly elements. It has been fitted with a large solar photovoltaic panel which produces over 11% of its total power use. It makes use of solar power to heat water. The building also sports efficient variable refrigerant volume HVAC systems, and active lighting controls.
The property recycles rain water for use in its toilets and to meet its irrigation needs. Use of bio-retention and underground basins for managing storm water runoff, and native landscaping add to its sustainability.
