Plans approved for student residential scheme in Bristol
Plans have been approved for Unite’s £20 million ($32.12 million) proposal for 442 student bedrooms on the site of the former Bristol Entertainment Centre in the UK, which will be designed by Bristol-based architectural practice Stride Treglown.
According to the new plan, the ice rink building of the former Bristol Entertainment Centre will be removed to accommodate the new building, which will be built around a courtyard. To complement the neighbouring buildings like the adjoining Unite House, and other buildings in the surrounding conservation area, brickwork will be used extensively in the design.
Providing the venue an identity distinct from the more reserved architecture of the student accommodation above, the existing 02 Academy, located on the ground floor, will be clad in zinc and finished with a distinctive saw tooth roof profile. The 02 Academy will remain in operation during the construction of the student accommodation above.
The public route from Trenchard Street up to Park Row will be redeveloped, which forms an important part of the design of the building.
Upon completion, the project will create both an attractive pedestrian route as well as access to the main entrances of the student accommodation and the O2 Academy by redesigning and changing the currently unused space.
