Parkway, Newbury shortlisted for RLI Designer of the year 2013 award

Parkway, Newbury in the UK has been shortlisted for Retail and Leisure International (RLI) Designer of the year 2013 award at the magazine’s Global Awards, which is designed by the global architectural practice BDP.

Also nominated for International Shopping Centre 2013, the £120 million ($185.62 million), 28,000 square metre Parkway, Newbury scheme has transformed the historic market town centre with a new vibrant retail-led mixed-use scheme. It has integrated new retail and housing into the surrounding historic fabric.

Situated at street level, Parkway includes two anchor stores along with over 50 shops and public realm space surrounded by al fresco cafes adjacent to the River Kennet.

Two-level retail units front the new Middle Street within the managed centre with linked access to the existing high street shops. Above the retail podium, it features a landscaped piazza with a seven-storey landmark residential tower fronting onto the adjacent Victoria Park.

Providing a coherent and legible pedestrian environment, it features separate building blocks, which provide a coherent and legible pedestrian environment that complements the other quarters in the town.

The Parkway, Newbury scheme was completed in 2012.
