Palais de Tokyo museum reopens after makeover
The Palais de Tokyo museum in Paris, France has opened after a $26 million facelift.
The contemporary arts centre has increased by about thrice its existing size following the makeover. The renovation has opened up a large area of the building spanning about 237,000 square feet.
The project has opened up almost 172,000 square feet of space in the museum basement which was left unused after France's cinema school known as Femis relocated from the place in 1995. The four spacious dark screening rooms of the cinema have now been upgraded with one of the rooms sporting a celestial installation called Star Studded Cave created by French artist Julien Salaud. The ceiling of the cinema now features strands of luminous fabric resembling the shape of deer, with forms replicating a sort of star chart of the sky at night.
Work also involved an overhaul of the southern side of the building. The property features a window installation by Swiss-American artist Christian Marclay post revamp work. All the seven windows on the building's facade now incorporate a vinyl print which fuses comic book references with Gothic stained glass. In addition, the project has led to the creation of a new entryway which allows straight access from the Eiffel Tower over the footbridge and into the museum.
