Warka Tower

Rural communities that are isolated and living without infrastructure often face the challenge of accessing drinkable, clean water. In response, the Warka Tower was born; an alternative water source that collects water from the rain, and also harvests fog and dew. Completely independent to traditional infrastructure, the Warka Tower is light weight and easy to construct. It is made with 100% recyclable, biodegradable materials; using traditional techniques, the Tower is designed to be maintained by the local community once it has been constructed, without the need of scaffolding or electrical tools.

The team behind the project were inspired by the insects and plants that live in most hostile environments on Earth, having developed the capacity to collect water from the air. In addition to drinkable water, the Warka Tower can provide a social space for communities under the shade of its canopy. The design’s latest version is also equipped with solar panels which create electricity, offering communities an infrastructure-free way of connecting to the rest of the world. The Warka Tower gives otherwise isolated communities a unique central hub and the promise of a life where clean water is free and accessible.
