Orascom, Besix JV secure shopping centre contract in Egypt
An equal stake joint venture (JV) between Besix Group and Orascom Construction has secured a contract from Majid Al Futtaim Properties to build a new $400 million shopping centre called Mall of Egypt in Cairo.
Mall of Egypt will be a 162,500 square metres of shopping and leisure development that will be built in the Sixth of October City, just outside of Cairo. The shopping centre will include an indoor ski park, a 17-screen cinema complex, 380 retail outlets, a Carrefour hypermarket and an outdoor plaza.
Known as Ski Egypt, the design of the indoor ski park at the mall, will mimic Ski Dubai at Dubai's Mall of the Emirates. Other amenities at the Mall of Egypt will consist of an amusement park, a car park and other associated facilities.
Construction work on the mall is likely to span for 34 months.
