Oklahoma State University to install AstroTurf playing surface in new training facility

Cowboy Athletic Facilities, LLC, on behalf of Oklahoma State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, has selected AstroTurf indoor artificial playing surface to be installed in two state-of-the-art fields at the nearly completed Sherman E. Smith Training Center on the campus in Stillwater.

Designed as a multi-purpose training complex, the Sherman E. Smith Training features three outdoor practice fields and one indoor artificial playing surface. Two of the outdoor fields will be natural grass. AstroTurf will install GameDay Grass 3D Xtreme turf system for the third outdoor field as well as the indoor surface.

AstroTurf's GameDay Grass 3D Xtreme turf system, which performs more like natural grass than any other synthetic product measured, will be used in the field. The field combines a monofilament Horseshoe fiber with a slit film product.

The Horseshoe fiber has an Omega-shape, which is claimed to be more resilient and bounces back, staying upright longer. It also claims to reflect less light and heat. The 3D Xtreme product will be used for both the 77,000 square feet indoor field and the 87,000 square feet outdoor practice field.

Installation of the artificial surfaces started on 24 May 2013 with an anticipated completion date set for summer 2013.
