Ocon scoops Phase III student accommodation scheme at University of Sussex

UK-based Ocon Construction has been named as a preferred bidder for the £6 million Northfields student accommodation phase III of University of Sussex in UK.

Scope of the project involves development of two additional accommodation blocks, which will expand the number of on-campus students beds. Each new tower will offer about 150 student accommodation units.

The residential units will be a mix of eight-person flats as well as six-person flats. Each cluster will have a kitchen and dining area. Each single study-bedroom will be complete with an en-suite shower room.

The new housing blocks will have minimal impact on the adjoining National Park. The buildings will be enveloped by landscaped area. The development will also feature covered racks for 72 bicycles. The entire phase III is expected to be completed by July 2013.

The project has already received approval from the Brighton & Hove City Council in July 2012. The phase III project will complete the Northfield development. Phase I with 777 rooms in 14 blocks has been open since summer 2011 while phase II with an additional 180 rooms in three blocks was completed earlier this summer.
