North Carolina History Center bags LEED Silver
The North Carolina History Centre at Tryon Palace in New Bern, North Carolina, US has secured has LEED Silver from the US Green Building Council.
The facility, which opened in October 2010, has been designed and developed by a collaboration of Quinn Evans Architects and BJAC. The facility spans over an area of 60,000 square feet. Among its various features include the Mattocks Hall, the Cannon Gateway, the Regional History Museum, the Pepsi Family Centre, the Cullman Performance Hall, and the Duffy Gallery.
The property incorporates a host of green features such as wetlands which allow to filter storm water runoff. It has also installed an underground cistern which stores rainwater to meet irrigation needs and replenish wetlands. Use of reclaimed and regionally-sourced materials during construction add to its sustainability.
