Norfolk International Airport to undergo makeover

Norfolk International Airport in Virginia, US is set to undergo a $11.7 million renovation.

The project will adorn the airport's main terminal with terrazzo floors, a large skylight encompassing the center court, and columns covered in marble. The retail kiosks will be shifted and substituted with more tables and chairs.

The passenger screening space on one of the concourses will be expanded to avoid spilling of the security lines into the lobby space. There will be creation of additional room for queuing while the screening lines will be increased in number from four to six.

The lobby work has been estimated at $3.9 million while the expansion of the security-screening has been budgeted at $7.8 million. Bulk of the money will be contributed by federal and state funds. The airport will support nearly $400,000 of the lobby work paid for from airline and concession leases, parking fees and passenger fees on tickets.

The project is due for completion by July 2013.
