New lights go on for classics
Lighting supplier Flos is to re-issue a collection of lamps originally designed in the Fifties and Sixties by Gino Sarfatti, one of the world’s most iconic lighting designers, in a collection called Re-lighting Sarfatti.
During Milan design week Italian lighting company Flos, now known as much for its technological innovation as its collaborations with leading designers, announced a new collection of lights created by Sarfatti. While he died nearly 30 years ago his legacy of beautifully designed lamps is still very current - his chandelier is still a Flos classic.
Sarfatti designed more than 600 lamps and light fittings that were all produced by Arteluce, the company he founded in 1939 and sold to Flos in 1973.
Being reissued and updated to incorporate cutting-edge LED technology, the inside components only are being updated, leaving Sarfatti's original lamp forms as he had designed them. Available from early next year will be Sarfatti's floor lamps Model 1063 (1954) and 1095 (1968); table lamps 607 shown) (1971), 548 (1951), and drop light 2129 (1969).
