New King's Cross concourse to open in March 2012
The new concourse at King's Cross in London, UK is set to open on 19 March 2012.
The new concourse will integrate old and contemporary architectural details. It will comprise more area and enhanced amenities, along with upgraded shopping and food and drink outlets. The new facility will also be the first British station to house some of the high streets brands.
There will be creation of new walking routes in the concourse based on the pedestrian modelling method which will improve traffic flow in the station. The concourse will also sport a new one-way system. The system will direct travellers to enter the station through the new concourse and exit through the current concourse at the bottom of the platforms.
The 1970s extension and canopy at the station's front part will be demolished as part of the station redevelopment project. The project will also involve creation of a new public square spanning 7000 square metres. The entire project is due for completion by the end of 2013.
