New green US embassy in Oslo breaks ground
United States has broken ground on a new $228 million embassy in Oslo, Norway.
The multi-building complex, encompassing a 10-acre site, has been designed by EYP Architecture & Engineering and will be developed by Chicago, Illinois' Walsh Global, LLC. Among its various features include a chancery, an underground support annex, three entry pavilions, along with Marine security guard quarters.
The new facility will imbibe several eco-friendly elements such as a green roof on one building. The facility will be designed to offer maximum natural light penetration inside which will reap energy cost cuts.
There will be a ground-source heat exchange system which will enable the property suffice almost 100% of its heating load. The facility will also sport a restored stream which will allow storm water management. Incorporation of over 45 bicycle parking areas will boost the green venture.
The project is due for completion by early 2015.
